more about the fellowship

A substantial part of the program was held with the exclusive participation of the Fellows. Three alumni of the NGF, Lynda Dave from Australia, Marcelo Ellenberg from Uruguay, and Jeni Friedman from Canada helped coordinate the program.

NGF 14 also saw the participation of three Fellows from Iran, who were warmly embraced and deeply embedded in all aspects of the program. A highlight of the NGF was a drum session led by Fellows from Argentina and Iran that welcomed a wonderful Shabbat experience, which included an outdoor service followed by a meal and song session led by Latin American Fellows in Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino. The experience brought to the forefront the NGF’s unique ability to bring young Jewish professionals from all areas and from all over the world together through Jewish experiences.

Joaquin Mirkin, originally from Argentina and living in Madrid, described his experience at the fourteenth NGF as having “deeply impacted [me] in a sense to understand and propose better ways to influence and structure  [Jewish] institutions”.

Immediately following the 14th NGF, past participants of Latin American NGF programs were invited to participate in a 3-day regional NGF reunion, held entirely in Spanish. The reunion brought together 30 Fellows from 7 Latin American countries and included both academic sessions and personal and communal updates.
