Copenhagen, Denmark| January 18 - 20 2015

After prior success in Iran, Australia, South Africa, Canada, Israel and Brazil, the shorter, more intensive program was brought to Europe. 35 Fellows from 22 different European countries including Turkey and Azerbaijan gathered for this European Regional Nahum Goldmann Fellowship.

Program

Coming just nine days after the murder of four Jews in a supermarket in Paris, the overall theme of the Fellowship, Education for Jewish Identity, was very present in the Fellows minds.

Speakers

Jonathan Arkush – Vice President, Board of Deputies of British Jews

Sally Berkovic – CEO of the Rothschild Foundation (Hanadiv), Europe

Rabbi Tamarah Benima – Alum of the NGF

Rabbi Bent Melchior – Chief Rabbi Emeritus, Denmark

Rabbi Joe Wolfson – Alum of the NGF

More About The Fellowship

In today’s open society, Jews are restricted in neither thought nor movement, and questions of identity, education, culture and life are interconnected. What does education for Jewish identity mean in contemporary Europe? How does education respond to the needs of European Jews and their communities? Can one even truly educate an identity? Rather than offering programmatic solutions, participants of this NGF shared experiences and perspectives, explored the challenges of the changing nature and meaning of Jewish identity given historical trends and current events, and discussed the role Jewish education can and should play in addressing these changes.

Testimonials

I was long searching for an open forum for discussions and dealing with high end and practical questions of Jewish Identity.

Thank you for a wonderful program that opened a window to Jewish life in Europe. It was inspiring and interesting.

Great opportunity to network and learn from other communities who share common struggles and problems.
