Havana, Cuba | February 14-16 2016

In an historic move, the MFJC chose Havana, Cuba as the location for a Latin American Regional Fellowship. The Fellowship gathered forty emerging leaders from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Panama, and Peru to discuss the challenges and opportunities unique to their respective Jewish communities.

Program

The program, conducted in Spanish and English, was themed Replenishing Jewish Life in Latin America, and was hosted by the Beth Shalom Synagogue of Havana with the support of the Centro Hebreo Sefaradi de Cuba.

Faculty

Dr. Daniel Fainstein – Dean of the Universidad Hebraica in Mexico

Rabbi Michel Schlesinger – Rabbi of Congregation Israelita Paulista in Brazil

Summary From The Staff

The Fellows were welcomed on behalf of the Memorial Foundation for Jewish Culture by Fernando Lottenberg, president of CONIB and treasurer of the Foundation. As Dr. Lottenberg said: “It is important that the event take place here in Cuba, not only to strengthen the integration of Cuban Jews to Latin American Jewish cultural life, but also to show solidarity with the Jewish community, which had no opportunity to hold events like this in the last decades.”
