First Ever Joint Regional Limmud FSU/Nahum Goldmann Fellowship Takes Place in Minsk
Last week for the first time, a joint regional Limmud FSU/Nahum Goldmann Fellowship meeting took place in Minsk, the capital of Belarus, with the participation of young Jews from across the former Soviet Union. During an intensive three days, the young participants, Jewish professionals and lay leaders, confronted and debated issues and questions relevant to their own communities and to future Jewish identity and Jewish community in the FSU.

Belarus Jews hold memorial for its famous descendant, Kirk Douglas
The Jewish community of Belarus held a memorial service to honor film actor Kirk Douglas, the Belarusian Jewish community’s most famous descendant.
The memorial was held in Minsk on Sunday, during a joint Limmud FSU/Regional Nahum Goldmann Fellowship meeting. It included a remembrance prayer and a moment of silence conducted by the capital city’s chief rabbi, Rabbi Shneur Deutsch, and the chief rabbi of the nation’s Progressive Jewish community, Rabbi Grisha Abramovich.

Nahum Goldmann Fellow Programme nurtures Jewish leadership
The recently concluded Nahum Goldmann Fellowship Programme (NGFP), which this year was held in Israel, once again brought together a broad range of up-and-coming young Jewish leaders from around the world for an intensive period of Jewish learning, discussion and sharing of experiences and perspectives. As always, participants found it to be an extremely enriching and inspiring experience, particularly in the opportunities it provided for engaging with Jews from completely different backgrounds.

In 2017, in honor of the 30th anniversary of the NGF, the MFJC conducted an extensive evaluation to understand the long term impact of the Nahum Goldmann Fellowship on past participants. The study indicated that the International Nahum Goldmann Fellowship is indeed helping emerging Jewish lay leaders and professionals: to connect more broadly across the Jewish world; to engage with serious Jewish learning; and to return to their home communities prepared to engage in greater leadership roles.
