NGF ONLINE 2021 | MAY 30 - JUNE 3, 2021

15 Jewish leaders, scholars and activists, from 10 different countries, participated in the first ever online NGF.

During the course of the week, participants confronted and debated some of the challenges and opportunities that the pandemic has brought, dealing with the theme “Re-imagining the Jewish Communal Future in a Post-COVID World.

The intensive and highly interactive program incorporated faculty-led presentations, small group discussions, and Fellow-Led Electives. Subjects include:

Faculty

Dr. Laura Shaw Frank is the National Director of the William Petschek Contemporary Jewish Life Department at AJC. She holds a PhD in Jewish history from the University of Maryland, College Park, and law and undergraduate degrees from Columbia University.

Rabbi Dr. Samuel Lebens is a research fellow in the philosophy department at the University of Haifa, and a dynamic Jewish educator. He holds a PhD in philosophy from Birkbeck College (University of London), and held post-doctoral positions at the University of Notre Dame and Rutgers.

Dr. Daniel Fainstein is dean and professor of Jewish Studies and Education at the Hebraica University in Mexico City. He was educated in Buenos Aires, Jerusalem, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico where he received his PhD.

Rabbi Dr. Rachel Sabath Beit Halachmi is a Jewish institutional leader, author, and sought-after public speaker. Currently, Rabbi Sabath serves Ohavay Zion Synagogue and is a senior scholar of the Kaplan Center for Jewish Peoplehood. Most recently Rabbi Sabath served as Assistant Professor of Jewish Thought and Ethics at Hebrew Union College (HUC) and led a four-campus team to achieve strategic goals. Prior to her national role at HUC, Rabbi Sabath served as Vice President of the Shalom Hartman Institute.

Dr. Sharon S. Nazarian is the President of the Y&S Nazarian Family Foundation, with a regional office in Israel named the Ima Foundation. The focus on education and public policy is core to Sharon’s philanthropic perspective. She is the founder of the Younes & Soraya Nazarian Center for Israel Studies at University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) and Chair of its Advisory Board. The Center is housed in the International Institute at UCLA in order to provide a systematic and academic study of Israel. She also teaches as an adjunct professor at the UCLA in the Department of Political Science. In 2017, The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) appointed Sharon as Senior Vice President of International Affairs. Sharon heads ADL’s work fighting anti-Semitism and racial hatred globally and also oversees ADL’s Israel office.
