The eighteenth Nahum Goldmann Fellowship marked the beginning of the MFJC’s expansion into regional programs. These programs emphasized local issues, faculty, and Fellows and were shorter in duration.
This NGF Australian Fellowship was held in Melbourne, bringing together 21 Fellows from across Australia. Planned in collaboration with the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, the Fellowship aimed to strengthen support for Jewish communities throughout the continent.

The 18th NGF was strategically scheduled to precede the annual meeting of the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, the umbrella organization of the Australian Jewish community. This allowed the young leaders from the NGF to actively participate in the council’s leading conference and fully integrate into its program.
The Fellowship was wholly planned and executed by NGF alumni Yair Miller and Lynda Dave. One of their central goals was to unite Australian Jewry and bolster support for communities across the continent.
Reflecting the MFJC’s shift from individual redefinition to collective action, this Fellowship equipped participants with tools to foster inter-community relationships and strengthen the Australian NGF network. Dr. Steven Bayme, serving as international faculty, described the program as addressing “a need that clearly was not being met by local Jewish communities.”
